Who will be on the England World Cup roster?

I’ve been speculating on the England roster for the World Cup which took a blow this week when it was reported that Andros Townsend would miss due to an operation on his ankle.  From my point of view, a huge disappointment for him and certainly for the national team. So, on that note here’s my current 23 man roster:

5 Forwards: Wayne Rooney, Daniel Sturridge, Danny Welbeck, Rickie Lambert, Raheem Sterling

7 Midfielders:  Steven Gerrard, Adam Lallana, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Michael Carrick, James Milner, Adam Johnson, Jack Wilshere

8 Defenders:  Gary Cahill, Leighton Baines, Glen Johnson, Steven Caulker, Ashley Cole, Phil Jagielka, Phil Jones, Micah Richards

3 Goalkeepers: Joe Hart, Ben Foster, John Ruddy

Certainly Danny Welbeck and Raheem Sterling could play on the wings if needed and Michael Carrick could drop into defense as he’s been called on to do at United. I’m not set on United’s Phil Jones as I think he’s struggled somewhat this season. He’s been used in a number of different positions, which is a credit to his abilities. But he’s a young player, and at times he’s been at sixes and sevens adjusting to his changing role. I thought Terry had retired, but if he hasn’t … leave him off. I think he’s shown to be a poison if things aren’t the way he thinks they should be. I also think he drags Ashley Cole into the muck and Cole’s a better defender. Lots to consider for the England National Team manager, Roy Hodgson. Roy Hodgson

Well, it’s a fun exercise and if you want to measure your roster up to some of the experts, go to the following link of The Telegraph: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/world-cup/10497297/World-Cup-2014-England-Squad-Selector-pick-your-23-then-compare-to-our-choices.html
