A Wonderous Week in Football leading to Championship Sunday

What a week in football!

Manchester United loses to Sunderland 0-1. Was Moyes vindicated?

Sunderland beats Manchester United 1-0 to further their efforts to escape relegation.  Good for them.

The incredible game was the Liverpool vs Crystal Palace game.  Unbelievably, Liverpool gave up a 3-0 lead into the 70+ minute. Crystal Palace scored…and scored…and scored to level the score. It was, I repeat, incredible!

Norwich made it interesting by drawing 0-0 with Chelsea, who saw their title hopes all but disappear.  Looks like they’ll have to be content with third place and an assured place in next season’s Champions League.

Norwich gave themselves a glimmer of hope. However, their goal differential is so high, that it’s unlikely they’ll be saved.

Fulham and Cardiff City were relegated after their losses.  Fulham who has been in the top tier for 13 seasons couldn’t avoid the drop this season. Welsh side Cardiff City, who enjoyed their first ever season in top flight English football were also relegated.  Both sides have fantastic fans who we hope we’ll see again.

Manchester United defeats Hull City by the score of 3-1. Memorable game as caretaker manager Ryan Giggs played some of the younger members of the squad and made an appearance himself as he came on as a sub. He played alongside Van Persie, Kagawa, Evra, and Vidic. This was the last home game that Nemanja Vidic would play and he got a fantastic send off from the home fans. While David Moyes tried to convince us this was a ‘season of change’, it looks more like it will be next season. We’ll miss his presence, stoic visage and crooked nose in our central defense next season.

Tottenham faltered against West Ham 0-2 and saw defender Younes Kaboul sent off on a straight Red Card. Manchester United could have made a valiant run at 6th place if they had secured a win against Sunderland…but alas, it wasn’t to be.  There is still an outside chance provided they can win their final game and Tottenham lose theirs.

Manchester City had a scare against Everton, but managed to pull out a 3-2 victory to further their cause for league champions.

Exiting action at the top and bottom of the Premiership table leading into Championship Sunday.
