World Cup: 2nd Day Bits and Pieces

– Mexico looked really good in their 1-0 win over Cameroon, which should have been 3-0 except for referee error. Oh the con-troversy! Dos Santos was brilliant.
– Netherlands finished 5-1 over defending champions Spain. Casillas who is normally a wall in the Spanish goal, looked at 6’s and 7’s. Once van Persie scored the tying, absolutely beautiful goal, the Netherlands settled, and took it to Spain. Van Persie and Robben were lethal!
– Australia made it a game against Chile even though the 3-1 score suggests otherwise. Level of play, questionable decisions and inexperience allowed Chile to hold on and then finish them off. However, the rest of the group should be on notice that Australia has come to play?
– 3 days and counting to the U.S. game against Ghana. Good news there is that not a lot of players on the roster have any history with them 🙂 I’m confident we can take it to them. I think the first 15 minutes are crucial and the U.S. needs to keep their focus while getting their collective feet under them. Bradley seems to be relishing his role as elder statesman. Let’s hope it translates to a win!
– Kudos to Bob Ley, Taylor Wellman, Michael Ballack, Kasey Keller, Ruud van Nistelrooy, and others (minus Alexi Lalas…and who needs Landon Donovan-he’s so boring) are giving a good account of games and making the pre/post analysis interesting.
– Looking forward to tomorrows games: Colombia vs Greece, Uruguay vs Costa Rica, England vs Italy (big game) and Ivory Coast vs Japan.
