Manchester drop points in loss to Southampton on the weekend

The roster looked strong, and for most of the time Manchester United looked in control. However, their achilles heel was exposed once more in their lack of defensive concentration. Southampton advanced toward goal and De Gea made himself big, such that the shot was pushed just wide enough to hit the post. However, Manchester United players were caught ball watching, in particular, Ander Herrera, who allowed the goal scorer, Tadic, free entry into the box for the perfect rebound.

Our best 3 chances were handed to Juan Mata on a platter, but unfortunately his latest goal scoring form deserted him. Robin Van Persie hardly saw any service, although Daly Blind’s crosses started to heat up and were dangerous in the Southampton box. Unfortunately, RVP was out by that time, but it was certainly nice to have Blind back.

The loss allowed Southampton to jump into 3rd place in the table,  over Manchester United.  It’s games like this that are so frustrating. The ones in which there is an excellent opportunity to gain ground on the leaders, or put distance between United and the rest of the pack. How often do we see them let down for whatever reason, and miss out.

Rumors are Falcao is unhappy and who can blame him? Hardly played to date, not on the bench for the last match, and hasn’t seen 90 minutes in how long? Wasn’t he van Gaal’s signing?  So, is  van Gaal over thinking things? Is he trying to motivate and instead causing unrest in the squad? Who knows? Van Gaal is still very much an unknown quantity and his famous 3-back formation is still a mixed bag.  Falcao and van Gaal
