Champions League 2nd leg result leaves Manchester United behind

Evra takes his shotEvra’s brilliant goal in the 59th minute was truly awesome. It gave the squad and fans a short lived boost however, as Bayern brought the ball down on the kick off and scored to take the lead in aggregate once more.

The game ended 3-1 and 4-2 on aggregate with Bayern going through to the semi’s. What an unfortunate ending to a pretty good run and decent enough form in the Champions League this season.  Now ManU can only play for the possibility of placing high enough in the table to play in Europa League next season.

Kagawa started and looked good along with Rooney and Welbeck in attack. All in all our defense played well, but the Bayern assault was just too much. It’s great having Valencia back as his form is steadily improving every game and he adds such a quick dynamic element to United’s attack.

Evra has taken a lot of hits by the media this season and honestly, I don’t know why.  He is one  of the best attacking outside backs playing at this level. He gets high in the air during corners and reads the opposition well.  I don’t understand the lack of loyalty to a player who has been a great contributor since he came to the team. If he does leave this summer, I will be sad to see him go.  Likewise, it will be sad to see Vidic go. He has been a rock over the years in center back, mostly partnering with Ferdinand. He played his last international game with United today as he will be moving over to Inter Milan in the summer.

Jones did well in defense and Smalling was a little less scary.

It’s a shame the Champions League season couldn’t end on a high note, but everyone knew it was going  to be an uphill battle.

Now the premier league is only represented by one team….Chelsea. They had a remarkable come back against Paris-St. Germain at home to move forward in the competition. Atletico Madrid had an incredible win against Barcelona to make it two Madrid teams, along side Real Madrid, to make the semi’s. The Semi-Final  draw will take place this Friday.
